Xtar is a renowned manufacturer of high-quality chargers for Li-ion batteries, flashlights, and Li-ion batteries. Xtar products are sold in over 120 countries, including the USA, Germany, Japan, and Russia. Xtar uses the highest quality materials in the production of chargers, from the plastic housing to the efficient electronics. All Xtar chargers are CE certified, required for European markets.
The compact housing houses a fully professional processor-controlled charger with a three-stage TC/CC/CV charging process. It charges 3.6/3.7V Li-ion cells of any capacity in sizes 18650, 18700, 20700, 21700 (including protected), 22650, 25500, and 26650.
What is the TC/CC/CV charging method? It is a three-stage charging process for Li-ion cells that ensures the cell is in good condition by charging with the appropriate current at each stage and terminating the charging process at the right time.
The individual stages of the TC/CC/CV process are:
- TC phase: cells discharged below 2.9V are "waked up" with a lower current.
- CC phase: once 2.9V is reached, the cell is charged at a constant current of 2x2A / 1x3A.
- CV phase: when the cell is almost fully charged, the charger switches to charging with a decreasing current until the cell voltage reaches 4.2V. Once the voltage reaches 4.2V, the charging process is complete - the battery is fully charged.
Batteries with a voltage of 4.1V or higher are considered charged by the charger. To fully charge such a battery, insert it into the charger before connecting it to the power supply. Charged batteries left in the charger will naturally self-discharge. Charging will resume when the battery voltage drops below 4.1V.
The Xtar SC2 charger has a function to reactivate deeply discharged cells and cells with a voltage of 0V. Many chargers on the market are unable to charge such batteries. This is where the Xtar SC2 charger comes in handy, allowing such cells to be "recovered" in many cases. Simply insert the deeply discharged battery into the SC2 charger as you would during normal charging - the charger will detect the discharged cell and attempt to reactivate it.
Warning! Cells discharged below a certain level are irreversibly damaged and may not be reactivated. Avoid deep discharge of Li-ion batteries - this can significantly reduce their lifespan and capacity, or even cause them to fail completely.
Chargers from other manufacturers can significantly increase the temperature of the cells being charged during charging. Excessive heating of the cells can cause them to wear out faster. When designing the SC2 charger, Xtar went a step further than its competitors, solving this problem with a simple solution: using an external power supply. This ensures that the temperature of the battery being charged in the SC2 will increase by no more than 15 degrees Celsius.
The Xtar SC2 charger comes with a USB-C cable. A power supply is not included. Any charger with a USB-C cable, such as a phone charger, a USB port, or a computer with a free USB port, will suffice to power the charger. The recommended minimum charger output is 2A.
